Grittenham Barn Wedding

Winter Wedding at Grittenham Barn in Sussex
In February, Lara & Alex tied the knot at this beautiful barn venue in Sussex. And though it was still technically winter, the skies were blue and the sun shone. Probably because it knew that these guys are two of the loveliest people you’re likely to meet. Which is one of the reasons I was so happy when they asked me to be their Grittenham Barn wedding photographer!
“Observant, subtle and beautiful photographs that really capture the energy and atmosphere of the day. Thank you! :)” – Lara & Alex

Unposed Wedding Photography in Sussex
I first met Lara at her bridesmaid’s wedding 4 years ago, so when she contacted me to say that her and Alex were getting married, I jumped at the chance. Then when she told me they’d chosen Grittenham Barn in the heart of the South Downs, my smile got even bigger. I love the South Downs, and have been lucky enough to shoot a number of weddings there over the last few years. Such a beautiful part of the country.
We started the day off in the small town of Midhurst, where Lara had hired a lovely little Airbnb for her and her bridesmaids to stay in. The morning was easy-going, and it was all cups of tea, and scrambled eggs on toast. Perfect wedding fuel!
A short drive away, Alex was welcoming their guests into Grittenham Barn, a beautiful old stone barn, with tons of charm and character. Oh, and donkeys. Can’t forget them!

Getting married is one of life’s happiest moments, so smile’s are a big part of the day, but it’s still so lovely to see a couple that are so in love, that are so each other’s best friend, and that are just so damn happy to be there. Their smiles and laughter echoed around the barn and were mirrored in the faces of their loved ones. A genuine privilege to be a part of this.
We moved outdoors for the confetti and plenty of mingling. Which is something that I don’t think anyone was expecting on a Saturday in February. UK weather likes to keep us on our toes though! We even had some sunglasses make an appearance!
As the light began to fade, the barn’s fairy lights really made the place feel extra special, as everyone took their seats for the meal and the speeches. With plenty of emotion, laughter, and a few teary eyes, we laughed and cried through the heartfelt words.
And before we knew it, the cake was being cut, the first dance was being danced, the kids were being swung around the dance floor, and two of the groomsmen were trying to light cigars from charred logs from the fire pit outside. Weddings…you gotta love ’em!
And here’s some of the incredible wedding suppliers who helped to make the day so special!
