Sharon & Simon’s Wedding at Blackbrook House

I’m always excited when people book me to be a Blackbrook House wedding photographer. This country house, nestled in a hillside near the Derbyshire town of Belper, is a beautiful backdrop for a wedding, and the staff are always fantastic. Every time I’ve visited they’ve treated the couple, their guests and me brilliantly.  So when Sharon & Simon asked me to photograph their wedding their back in May, I was only too happy to say yes.

“Thanks again for doing an amazing job and capturing the ‘story of our day’ perfectly. The photos are just wonderful!”

Unique Wedding Dress

I love it when couples make their wedding day individual and personal to them.  Sharon had told me that they wanted their day to be relaxed and informal, rather than going the traditional route.  When she arrived in a bespoke wedding outfit rather than a traditional bridal gown, it was clear she was in her element.  Simon had been waiting nervously at the front of the ceremony room, but on seeing her walk down the aisle he was obviously overjoyed.

Informal Wedding Reception

The afternoon following the ceremony was a laid-back occasion with few traditional wedding elements. No wedding cake to cut, no first dance and no top table. Instead there was a giant table for everyone to sit around like a huge feast!

Before the meal, there were drinks served on the patio for the grown-ups while the kids played football and Jenga. Well…mostly kids! After an overcast morning, the afternoon brought blue skies and warm sunshine, which always puts a smile on people’s faces.

With the meal and speeches enjoyed and the sun setting outside, the remainder of the evening was time for Sharon and Simon to spend time with their friends and family. The entertainment came in the familiar form of Paul Martyn, Derbyshire wedding singer and saxophonist, whose soundtrack fitted the mood of the day perfectly. Sharon, Simon, thank you both, it was a great day!
