Welsh Marquee Wedding

A Cross-Country Wedding ending in a Welsh Marquee

When you last saw me and Andy (Pickard of Peacock Obscura Photography) we were riding off in to the sunset after a wedding at Wollaton Hall in Nottinghamshire. That ride took us almost five hours and saw us pulling up to our Porthmadog Travelodge in the small hours of the morning; our base for a marquee wedding out near Abersoch later that day. Once everything was backed up and on charge, we flaked out.

The following morning, our bellies full of breakfast cobs and the sky full of drizzle, we set off towards Abersoch. We arrived at a wonderful cottage which was to play host to Sophie and her bridesmaids as they got ready. After a quick coffee and a chat, I left Andy with the girls and walked down into the Llanengan Village to meet Jonny at his groomsmen.

I met them just as they were putting the finishing touches to their outfits outside of the guest house where they’d been staying, and we all walked down to the village pub together for the traditional pre-wedding drinks. After the pub started to fill with wedding guests seeking similar refreshment, Jonny and his groomsmen left to go to the church over the road. This is what I love about village weddings. Everything’s so close!

After a lovely ceremony, the newlyweds walked through a confetti aisle and out towards their wedding car, but Jonny had a surprise for Sophie in the way of a helicopter ride! So while the rest of us were making our way to the marquee up on the hill, the happy couple and their parents were treated to a rather scenic tour of the area. Luckily the grey start to the day had cleared a little to give them some blue skies at least.

The wedding breakfast and reception was held in a marquee on the hill looking over the dramatic Welsh coastline. Not a bad spot for a wedding reception at all! Once Sophie and Jonny joined their wedding guests, they were entertained by a magician and a 3-piece jazz band playing on the deck outside the marquee. Being right on the coast, sadly we weren’t treated to balmy summer temperatures, but even as the sun started to set and the temperature dropped further, it still didn’t stop everyone gathering outside for a big game of wedding cricket!
