A Guide to Midweek Weddings

Gone are the days when weddings only happen on the weekend; these days, any day of the week is good for a wedding. Many couples are opting for a Monday to Thursday wedding, and bagging all the benefits that come with choosing midweek over a weekend date. Getting married midweek is a choice, not a compromise.

What are the benefits of a midweek wedding?

Probably one of the most common reasons for booking your wedding midweek is to secure a date at your chosen venue. Those summer weekend dates can book up quickly, so going for a midweek date gives you way more chances at getting that summer wedding you dreamed of.

The same goes for other wedding businesses you’re looking at when planning your wedding. Venue styling, hair, makeup, as well as photographers and videographers, will all have much more availability for midweek dates. Not just this, but they can often be more flexible by offering shorter coverage or reduced packages that aren’t possible on weekend dates.

Other advantages can include lower costs, less pressure, and a more relaxed, intimate feel to the day. All things to think about when it comes to planning your big day. Maybe the thought of a big weekend wedding feels too much for you both, and something smaller, quieter, and in the middle of the week would be more your speed.

What Are Midweek Weddings Actually Like?

Over the years I’ve seen a fair few midweek weddings, both as a guest and as a photographer, and I can tell you that, for the most part, they’re filled with as much fun, love, and laughter as any other wedding. The mornings may be a little calmer, the ceremony a little smaller, and the party a little quieter, but for people getting married midweek, these are all big positives. They also tend to stray from the usual wedding day structure, as it’s easier to do things your way. Want a 3 hour lunch? Done. Fancy finishing the whole day at 8pm? Go ahead. All is much more fluid when you get married during the week.

How Do You Approach Shooting a Midweek Wedding?

In short, exactly the same as I would any other wedding. As a documentary wedding photographer, most of my day is spent taking photos of you and your guests doing your thing, and this is no different midweek. No matter the day of the week, I put just as much into shooting your wedding and giving you a set of photos that captures the relaxed, natural vibe of your day.

What Kind of Couples Book A Midweek Wedding?

It’s usually couples who care more about the experience than the tradition of a wedding. Couples who want to spend their wedding day with those close to them, who are willing to take time off work to celebrate their wedding. Couples who want quality time with their family and close friends. Couples who aren’t motivated by “shoulds”.

Booking Your Midweek Wedding Photographer

Midweek weddings deserve great photography, too! All those wonderful family hugs, those laughs with friends, those quiet moments together, will still happen, and photography that focuses on recording the story of your wedding, is perfect for making sure you can look back on them all in years to come.
