ABOUT ME

HI, I’M CHRIS

Above you’ll see the rarest of things… a photograph of me. And yes, I’m fully aware of the irony. If you’re someone who instinctively ducks when a camera comes out, we’re already on the same page. I’ve never been comfortable being the centre of attention either, which is exactly why I’ve built my approach to wedding photography around taking that pressure off you.

I’ve been photographing weddings in a relaxed, natural way for over 15 years now, and in that time I’ve learned that the best moments happen when people aren’t being directed within an inch of their lives. My job isn’t to turn you into models for the day, it’s to let you be yourselves, properly present with your favourite people, while I quietly document it all as it unfolds.

Due to a distinct lack of photos of me (see above), here’s our cat Cosmo to brighten up the page. He’s much bigger than this now, but was much cuter when he looked like this!

Cosmo shares his house with me, my insanely talented wife, Beck, and our unstoppable 4-year old, Cara. We’re lucky enough to call the beautiful county of Derbyshire our home, and try and get out exploring as often as we can. Those of you with kids in your life may relate to how often these trips can be cut short, though. Can I get a “Daaaad, I’m tired, can you carry me?”

MUSIC

I’ve played guitar in post-hardcore/alt-rock bands for probably half my life (kinda Deftones-Coheed & Cambria-Incubus vibes), but those days are behind me. These days are spent trying to get Cara to listen to some “Daddy music” without her pulling a face and covering her ears! You never know, though. I may bring the guitars out of retirement one day.

Books

If I had a quid for every book that’s either piled up next to the bed or in my office, waiting to be read, I’d have about £50 I reckon! I’m on a self-imposed book-buying-ban at the moment, as I went through more of a book-collecting phase, than a book-reading phase. Gimme some good horror, speculative fiction, or a history book, and I’m happy.

Movies

From renting VHS movies from our local video shop with my sister when we were kids, to trying to fit in solo cinema trips between editing and nursery runs, movies are always a place I love escaping to. Our daughter loves them, too, and the question “Is she old enough for Jurassic Park?” is never far from my lips.
