Hertfordshire Outdoor Wedding

tender moment between the couple

An Fun Outdoor Wedding in Hertfordshire

Charlotte and Hakan got in touch after a good friend of mine recommended me to them. We met in Derby for a drink and a chat about their wedding plans. Originally they’d decided on a farm in Derbyshire, but due to a change in their circumstances, they moved to a Hertfordshire outdoor wedding. Buckettsland Farm offered a great location for an outdoor wedding and had a marquee for the reception.

I arrived at a hotel not too far from the venue, where Charlotte and her bridesmaids were busy putting the finishing touches to their hair, make up and dresses. Once everyone was ready, there was just time to crack open the champagne for a toast before it was time for the bridesmaids to gather their things into the waiting camper van downstairs and head to the venue.

Buckettsland Farm – End of an Era

Buckettsland Farm is a wonderful setting for a wedding. Tucked away in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, it includes a couple of old farm buildings and a large field with a marquee. Now, the sad thing is, this was one of the last few weddings to be held here, as the owners were stopping weddings and selling up. So if any of you have a bit of spare cash and fancy starting a wedding venue…

It was a bit of a risk going for the outdoors ceremony, as the forecast was rain and the skies looked ominous. The risk paid off though, as the weather held and they had a wonderful outdoors ceremony. I know I might harp on about it, but I love happy people at weddings. So when these two were constantly smiling as Charlotte walked down the aisle, I knew I was in for a great day!

After the ceremony, which featured a great reading by Hakan’s mum, there were congratulatory hugs, kisses and toasts. The guests were served some tasty looking appetisers, and me, Charlotte, Hakan and their dog took a moment for some relaxed portraits.

We were soon back with the rest of the guests for some quality mingling, and giving the guests plenty of time to fuss the dog before she had to go back home. The bouncy castle and space hoppers were popular with the kids until the heavens opened and we were forced indoors. No drunken adult bouncy castle photos for me!

Surprise Singing Waiters

I’d been given advance warning that the three waiters serving the drinks were actually The Singing Waiters. And nobody else knew! So as people took their seats for the speeches, I kept a keen eye on the waiters. During the day, they’d spoken in pretty convincing Polish accents, which they kept up for their songs. But even I was shocked when at the end of their set, they thanked everyone in regular English accents. Bravo, sirs. Bravo!

There was a short breather before the evening reception started. People were either lined up at the bar while Hakan’s dad poured lethal looking shots, or bringing their camping stuff to the tents behind the marquee. Such a great idea being able to camp next to the wedding venue. No waiting for taxis or designated drivers.

So, as the first dance descended into more drinking and dancing and celebrations, I said my farewells to Charlotte and Hakan and headed back to Derbyshire.
