A Beautiful Rustic Wedding Near Ashbourne in Derbyshire

Meet Kimberley and Joe. I knew that this happy, smiley pair were exactly my cup of tea when we had our first video call to discuss me being their Lower Damgate Farm wedding photographer. Friendly, funny, easy going, and just generally lovely people. We also had the shared experience of having a new-born around the house at the time. Glad it was them planning a wedding and not me! They spent their whole wedding day at this wonderful farm, near Ashbourne in Derbyshire, and I enjoyed every minute of being there photographer at this great rural venue.

The two of them got ready in separate cottages across the courtyard from each other. Which proved to be very handy as I lost count of the number of times a groomsman or bridesmaid popped over to the ‘other side’ to deliver a message, or to drop something off. It also means that they didn’t waste a moment on travelling between venues, and got to spend as much time as possible with their friends and family. Always a big plus in my book.

Joe’s dad was in charge of the ceremony, which started outside, but the rain soon put a stop to that. And this was the only wedding I’ve photographed where everyone re-located mid-ceremony. One of the perks of having your dad leading the ceremony I guess. But as you’ll see by the photos, it made not a jot of difference, and their smiles and laughter were unwavering throughout the whole day. Bless ’em!

Lower Damgate Farm for wedding photographs

Lower Damgate Farm is not only a great venue for your wedding day, giving you and your guests some fantastic Derbyshire views, a gorgeous converted barn for your ceremony and reception, and access to a bunch of friendly alpacas, it also provides a beautiful backdrop for your wedding photos. The owner, Carolyn, is lovely, and will be on hand to look after you, and to give you help and tips on which spots are looking good for photos at the time of your wedding.

Being home to Dovedale Animal Sanctuary is a big part of what makes this venue special. If you’re animal lovers, then you’ll be extra impressed with this as a location for your wedding day. It’s not uncommon to have chickens, cats, goats, or alpacas roaming around at various points during the day. And the alpaca feeding time is a lovely bonus for your guests in the afternoon. I know the kids love it, especially. And if you’re game, Carolyn will give the two of you some feed, and get you in the thick of the alpaca action, for some fun shots of the two of you.
