An Autumn Wedding at Melbourne Parish Church, Derbyshire

Some weddings feel like a good day from the minute you step through the door, and Anna and Rob’s was exactly that. A laid-back September morning, plenty of laughter, no one taking anything too seriously. Pretty much my ideal scenario as a Melbourne Parish Church wedding photographer.

Melbourne Parish Church is a familiar spot for me, but every wedding there manages to feel different. On this particular Saturday, the village had that early-autumn glow: leaves just starting to turn, guests arriving with the usual mix of excitement and mild confusion about where to park, and Rob already cracking jokes long before he reached the aisle.

Anna arrived looking calm, happy, and entirely unbothered by the occasional gust of wind trying to cause drama. Inside the church, the atmosphere was exactly what you’d want; warm, relaxed, and full of people who were clearly there to have a genuinely good time. From my point of view, days like this are why I love shooting weddings: real moments, real people, no fuss.

What followed was a ceremony full of laughter, a few well-timed tears, and a lot of the kind of small, unscripted moments that we all love in photos.

Getting Married in Melbourne

Melbourne is one of those villages that makes weddings feel effortless. Old, narrow streets, historic buildings, and that unmistakable Derbyshire charm all add up to a backdrop that photographs beautifully without trying too hard. Whether you’re walking to the church, stopping for a quiet moment in the market square, or just enjoying a coffee at one of the local cafés, the village has a way of making the day feel relaxed and timeless. For couples thinking about getting married in Melbourne, the parish church is a classic choice that blends history with a welcoming, lived-in atmosphere.

Derbyshire Village Wedding Venue

For the reception, the nearby Melbourne Assembly Rooms is a brilliant option. It’s a space that manages to feel both intimate and spacious, giving couples room to celebrate without losing that village vibe. High ceilings, period details, and the flexibility to make the space your own mean it works just as well for a relaxed lunch as it does for an evening party. For anyone planning a Derbyshire village wedding, combining Melbourne Parish Church with the Assembly Rooms gives you a day that flows naturally, from the ceremony to photos in the village streets, and finally to a reception where everyone can genuinely enjoy themselves.
