Andover Hampshire Wedding

A Relaxed Garden Wedding in Rural Hampshire
Harriet and Wojciech’s August wedding had everything I love about shooting weddings in rural Hampshire: a beautiful old church, a walk through the countryside, and a back garden that was basically made for a marquee. Proper rural English charm without any of the stuffy formality. After saying their vows at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Vernham Dean, the couple led the whole wedding party back to Harriet’s parents’ house in Upton. No vintage buses, no classic cars, just a happy procession of guests in their wedding finery strolling through the Hampshire countryside on a summer afternoon.
The rest of the day unfolded in and around Harriet’s family home, which, honestly, is my favourite kind of wedding setup. Reception drinks in the walled garden, wedding breakfast in a marquee on the lawn, and that relaxed atmosphere you only get when you’re celebrating somewhere that actually means something to you. There’s something brilliantly unfussy about a back garden wedding. Yes, there’s still all the careful planning and beautiful details, but without the pressure of a big venue and its ticking clock, everyone just seems that bit more relaxed about it all.
Getting Married in Rural Hampshire
If you’re planning a wedding in rural Hampshire, you’ll find no shortage of beautiful countryside settings like Harriet and Wojciech’s celebration in Andover. From historic village churches to family homes with sprawling gardens, this part of Hampshire offers the kind of relaxed, authentic atmosphere that’s hard to find at typical wedding venues. As a Hampshire wedding photographer, I love working in these rural locations where the focus is on the people and the landscape rather than grand architecture, though the rolling hills and ancient churches certainly don’t hurt either.
Hampshire Documentary Wedding Photographer
My approach to wedding photography is documentary-led, which means I’m there to capture your day as it unfolds rather than spending hours on formal group shots and posed portraits. I focus on real moments, natural interactions, and the atmosphere of your celebration; the kind of images that actually feel like your wedding when you look back at them. This style works particularly well for relaxed, informal weddings where couples want beautiful photos without feeling like they’ve spent the whole day being directed by their photographer.
Getting Married at the Family Home
Getting married at a family home brings a level of personal meaning that’s impossible to replicate at a commercial venue. Whether it’s a back garden marquee wedding, like Harriet and Wojciech’s, or a more intimate house celebration, these weddings have a warmth and authenticity that make them so much fun to photograph. No venue coordinator is watching the clock, no restrictions on timing or décor, and everyone’s genuinely relaxed because they’re celebrating somewhere that actually matters to the couple. If you’re considering a home wedding in Andover or the surrounding Hampshire countryside, I’d love to hear about your plans.
