An Autumn Wedding at Rudyard Lake Sailing Club

Rudyard Lake Sailing Club is, as you’d imagine, set by the waters of Rudyard Lake (wouldn’t be much use if it wasn’t!) in the county of Staffordshire, and it played host to Georgie & Jamie’s wedding reception. Not your traditional wedding venue, but that makes it all the more interesting, right? After having a mega wedding celebration at their church, Swan Bank in Stoke-on-Trent, they retired to Rudyard Lake for food, drinks, and an ace party! Being their wedding photographer on this fun-filled, action-packed day, hardly felt like work at all. These two and their families are some of the friendliest and funniest people you’re likely to meet, and the whole day was pretty much wall-to-wall smiles!

Swan Bank Church Wedding

Swan Bank Church is Georgie and Jamie’s church, and one that they’re very active within and care deeply about. You could tell just by how invested everyone at the venue was in making this the best day for them. The people working at the venue weren’t just venue staff, they’re colleagues and dear friends. This all made for an extra special wedding ceremony, which was followed by everyone retiring to the church hall at the back of the venue for tea, coffee, and cake. LOTS of cake!

Staffordshire Documentary Wedding Photographer

Neither Georgie nor Jamie were fussed about having tons of posed portraits and hours of formal group photos, so that left me to do my thing and shoot their wedding day with a relaxed documentary approach. To me that means not stopping or interfering with any part of the day for the purpose of a photograph, but it also means that I’m not skirting around the edge of the wedding not talking to anyone. Like any other wedding day, I was in amongst their family and friends while I was working, which all helps to relax people while I’m taking photos. And that’s how you end up with the photos of your favourite people looking totally relaxed and being themselves.

Rudyard Lake Sailing Club Wedding

I’m always up for a slightly unusual wedding venue, or a venue I haven’t photographed at before, and Rudyard Sailing Club ticked both of these boxes. Though not your typical wedding venue, it has everything you’d want for a good wedding knees-up. A bar (of course), a dance floor, room for a bunch of people to sit down and have a meal, great views, and a cool, quirky vibe to help make your wedding day memorable.
