Barmbyfield Barns Wedding Photographer
Gorgeous Barn Wedding in East Yorkshire
Here it is. My last wedding from 2015. Rhi and Pete asked me to be their Barmbyfield Barns wedding photographer in East Yorkshire. One of the things I always enjoy about writing blogs about weddings is not just choosing my favourite photography from the day, but using it to choose images that really tell the story of the day as I saw it. When I met with Rhiannon and Pete way back in 2014, it was this aspect of my style that made them get in touch, as neither of them wanted to spend too long posing for pictures preferring to spend as much time with their guests as possible.

The Wedding Morning at Bricknell Cottages in Fangfoss
Though sounding more like it’s somewhere in Iceland, Fangfoss is actually in East Yorkshire, and is the home of Bricknell Cottages, where both Rhiannon and Pete spent the morning getting ready. Rhiannon in Ruby’s Retreat and Pete in Ethel’s Escape (which should totally be the name of a movie!), both beautifully renovated cottages making a great setting for their wedding day morning. It also made it easy for me to capture both parties getting ready, which I think makes the story of the day that bit stronger.
I made my way to St Catherine’s church to await Rhiannon’s arrival in their special wedding car; a recently completed VW Beetle that a friend of theirs is now hiring out for weddings. As I stood by the gate of the church enjoying the quiet of this late summer’s afternoon, I heard it. The gentle throaty hum of the VW and then it appeared, with bunting flapping in the breeze. It looked ace! Rhi and her dad left the car and made their way up the rather lengthy path to the church. After the ceremony, there was some congratulatory smiles, handshakes and lots of hugs before the confetti and then it was off to the reception venue.

I’d been hearing talk throughout the day of the work that had gone into decorating the venue, but I wasn’t prepared for the sight that met me as I walked through the doors of Barmbyfield Barn. Thousands and thousands of tiny origami stars suspended from the rafters above the wedding breakfast tables. These guys had been VERY busy! It was good to see that their efforts were being enjoyed by the guests, who seemed to spend the first 15 minutes just wandering around with their phones out taking pictures of the room. Clearly it was all worth it.
Soon the guests were seated beneath the stars and it was time for the speeches, which were both emotional (especially from Rhi’s mum) and funny. After the wedding buffet, the guests were back to admiring the decor and the barn itself, before being treated to lovely sunset, and the happy couple having a quick spin in the Beetle whilst perched on the top of the back seat! Then, as the light dimmed, and the fairy lights were turned on, we were treated to a rather magical looking first dance.
