An Autumn Wedding at Melbourne Parish Church in Derbyshire

Louise and Oliver got in touch at the start of last year to ask if I would photograph their wedding at Melbourne parish church and their reception at a barn in Leicestershire. Louise is originally from Melbourne, and her parents still live in the village. It’s also where me and Beck call home these days, so it felt extra special somehow, to be a part of their wedding in my home town.

Getting Ready at Mum & Dad’s House

Louise’s parents live a few doors up the road from me, so I was able to start off the day on foot. A first for me in my 7 years of shooting weddings! Always like to do my bit for the environment, too. Things were in full swing as I arrived, with India and Yasmine of local salon, Elysium, already getting everyone looking the part for the big day! Plenty of smiles, lots of laughter, and fishbowl-sized glass of G&T! It’s what wedding mornings are made of!

Before too long, I was off to the church. Melbourne’s impressive parish church. If you’ve never been, it’s more like a mini cathedral. Just look at the view from the top balcony. Stunning! I caught up with Ollie and his best man, and there were no signs of nerves here either. Just more smiles and excitement. I knew this was going to be a lot of fun!

Wedding Reception at a Barn in Leicestershire

After the confetti had been thrown, and a few photos had been taken, it was off to a beautiful, exclusive barn wedding venue in the Leicestershire countryside. As we were being treated to weather better than most of the summer had seen, it was great to be able to spend plenty of time outside while we still had the light. Guests sat in the courtyard, kids playing on the grass outside the front of the venue, and of course, the bouquet toss! Wouldn’t have been half as much fun if it’d have been indoors!

When it comes to speeches, there’s always the chance that the guests will be entertained with a barrage of gags found off the internet. Thankfully, this was not one of those occasions! Instead, the speeches, were sincere, heartfelt, and more than anything, bloody funny! It felt like the room was laughing solidly for a good half an hour! Nice work, speakers!

And so, after a quick frenzy around the chocolate fountain, it was time for our newlyweds to dance their first dance, and for their friends and family to interrupt and turn the dance floor into a mass of swirling dresses and drunken dance moves. Louise, Oliver…it was a brilliant day, and I’m honoured to have played a small part in it! Congratulations!
