Cubley Hall Wedding
A Relaxed and Intimate Wedding at Cubley Hall in Yorkshire
Sam and Jim got in touch with me in January last year to ask whether I was available to photograph their wedding. As luck would have it, despite it being only four months before their date, I was available to shoot their wedding at Cubley Hall near Sheffield. So, early on a misty Derby morning in May last year, I hopped in the car and set off for Yorkshire!
Sam was getting ready at Cubley Hall so I arrived there in the morning to capture photos of her and the bridesmaids getting ready. With everything happening at the same venue, it meant that I could nip down and take photos of Jim greeting guests in between the girls having their hair done. He was a bit nervous, bless him, but with a big grin on his face as he met their guests.
The plan for the day was for the wedding ceremony to take place in the bandstand on the edge of the grounds of Cubley Hall. For a minute or two in the morning, it looked like we were about to be rained off, but it stayed dry, and though a little chilly, neither of them seemed to notice, with smiles plastered across their faces for the whole ceremony. In fact…Sam might just be one of the smiliest people I’ve ever met!
After drinks on the lawn, we all ventured into the bar area for a mini gig, where Jim, along with a variety of friends played a handful of songs to the wedding party, as well as some of the regulars. I should probably clarify that Jim and his friends are all in bands. They didn’t just randomly decide to get up and have a go at playing!
The wedding breakfast took place in The Barn, which was beautifully decorated and lit with lanterns and fairy lights. Being a barn, it’s usually a bit dark, but the lights really created a great atmosphere. And it also made everyone appreciate the sun when they emerged, a couple of hours later! So it was on for some garden games and hula hoops for the last few hours of the evening as the sun set.
As the day came to a close, we all made our way back into The Barn for the reception. The guests ooh-ed and ahh-ed as Sam and Jim whirled around the dance floor to one of their friends playing an acoustic guitar. As the song ended and the guests applauded, Jim picked up a spare guitar and joined in, leaving Sam to be joined by her friends to start the evening’s dancing.
