Derby Museum Wedding
A Small, Relaxed wedding at Derby Museum
I’ve known Laura through some mutual friends for a while now, and when she got in touch to say that her and Carl were getting married and planned on having a small Derby Museum wedding, I jumped at the chance to photograph it. Not only did their small celebration (Laura would be smacking my wrists for calling it a wedding. They were quite keen to avoid anything too weddingy) sound like the kind of intimate, laid-back affair that I love photographing, but Derby Museum is such an interesting building. And though it’s sad that it’s no longer the central library, I’m happy it still has a cultural role to play within the city.
After a beautiful and emotional ceremony (I think Laura must have gone through a few packs of tissues), they had some speeches, some drinks, and their guests enjoyed being amongst the museums exhibits. The two mummies, and their alleged curse, proving to be one of the highlights. Then the newlyweds marched the guests, pied piper style, across Derby to The Orange Tree, a stylish bar a short walk away, for more drinks, food, and a party into the night. Here are just a few highlights of their big…not-wedding!
