A Relaxed Village Wedding in Hartington, Derbyshire

I met Jenny & Paul in the winter of 2017 for a pint and a natter about their wedding plans. As soon as we sat down and they started telling me about themselves and their wedding plans, I knew we’d get along famously! And nine months later, I photographed their wedding at Hartington Hall in the Derbyshire Peak District. Their plans were to spend a day celebrating their relationship with all the people that meant the most to them. It was to be a simple, relaxed, hassle-free wedding, and they pulled it off brilliantly! Their wedding was such a perfect reflection of their personalities; no frills, no nonsense, just good food, good friends, and good fun!

Hartington Hall Wedding Photographer

They’d chosen Hartington Hall as the venue for their outdoor wedding ceremony. It sits atop a hill on the edge of the village and is a YHA youth hostel, well used for people looking to explore some of the stunning countryside nearby. Occasionally it doubles as a wedding venue. After a wet morning, the clouds dried up, and Jenny and Paul had their outdoors wedding after all.

In the spirit of keeping things simple, this pair decided to lead the wedding party, Pied Piper-style, down the hill, into the village, ending at the village hall, which was to play host to their wedding reception. After having a group of their friends help with the decorations, the hall looked fantastic! Just the setting to spend the rest of their wedding day.

Everyone was treated to a fantastic buffet, some cracking local beers, and some moving, tender, and hilarious speeches! (I think it’s the first time I’ve ever seen the groom given the gift of Ken Dodd!) After cutting the cake and having their first twirls on the dance floor, the sun set on this fab wedding day, and I said my goodbyes. Jenny, Paul, I hope these photos are a lovely little reminder of your wedding day!
