Kedleston Country House Wedding

An Autumn Wedding at The Kedleston Country House in Derbyshire
Amy and Alex’s September wedding at The Kedleston Country House was the first time I’d heard the phrase ‘twilight wedding’ (if you’re not sure, it’s a later-starting wedding, usually mid-afternoon or early evening), and I really love the idea. Perfect for those who might struggle with a full day of being in the spotlight, or who just want a shorter, smaller celebration. And despite loving a full-day’s coverage and all the action that comes with it, us wedding photographers also have a soft spot for shorter days and getting home the right side of midnight!
With two young kids in tow, Amy and Alex’s wedding was always going to be a family affair, filled with the fab chaotic energy that only comes with having young kids around (or occasionally groomsmen). They put The Kedleston’s ample dining room to good use and had it as a kids play area. There was no formal sit-down meal so this room was a great place for the kids to run wild.
The Kedleston is a great venue, with lots of options for all kinds of weddings, and all kinds of weather. We were treated to a bit of a wet day, but still got a few breaks in the rain to get out onto the country lane for some portraits while the kids all got chance to let off steam running around the gravelled garden area (and putting my backwards-walking to the test by chasing me with some fallen branches!).
Derbyshire Country Estate Wedding Venue
The venue gives you a couple of distinct indoor spots to work with. The Orangery, with its glass roof and rural views, is a stunning choice for a ceremony or champagne reception, especially if you’re keen to bring the outside in. There’s also a classic Dining Room with high windows and architectural character for sit-down meals or quieter moments. After the formal bits, guests naturally drift out onto the terrace and lawns when the weather’s good, but if it’s chillier, the snug and bar areas are great places for people to relax and chat without feeling boxed in.
Exclusive Use Wedding Venue
One of the best bits about The Kedleston Country House is that you get exclusive use of the whole place for your day, meaning the house, grounds, orangery, snug, and all the little corners become your space from the moment things kick off. Couples often tell me this makes the whole vibe feel less “event” and more like a proper celebration with their people around them. It’s a family-run venue with a personal feel, so you’re not just slotting into a standard package, there’s real flexibility to do the day in a way that suits you.
Kedleston Country House Wedding Accommodation
What helps The Kedleston Country House stand out is that it’s not just a place to hold a ceremony and disappear. There are five boutique bedrooms on site, including a bridal/honeymoon suite, so you and your closest can stay the night without having to worry about taxis or splitting up the group. In the morning, there’s breakfast together in the dining room to round things off. And because the venue doubles as a well-loved countryside restaurant with seasonal, locally-sourced food, many couples lean into that relaxed, homely vibe for their wedding breakfast too.
