Windy Wedding at Peak Edge Hotel

A Windy Wedding at the Peak Edge Hotel in Derbyshire
I met Leanne way back in 2013 when she was a bridesmaid at Sarah and Jamie’s wedding at the Newton Park hotel where she almost stole the show with THE best dance off I’ve ever seen between her and the best man. She won. Hands down. Literally, at times!
Fast forward a couple of years and I was pulling up at Leanne and Joe’s house in Matlock, Derbyshire ready to photograph their Peak Edge Hotel wedding. The tables turned this time with Sarah stepping into the bridesmaid’s shoes. And just to make the morning seem almost too familiar for me, it turns out Leanne’s sister’s fiance was in my year at school!
From there I drove the short distance to St Helen’s Church, which sits in the rather aptly named Churchtown in Darley Dale. I had a quick chat with Joe, who was looking a little shaky at the front of the church, before returning to the church gates to wait with the bridesmaids for Leanne’s arrival.
There are a number of looks that us photographers see on bride’s faces as they walk down the aisle. Nervous, anxious, calm, etc. Well, Leanne walked down the aisle beaming like the proverbial Cheshire cat! And it didn’t wear off for pretty much the whole day.
With confetti blowing around the churchyard, we all made our way to the Peak Edge Hotel for the reception. There’d been a breeze at the church, but when you get up on those Derbyshire hills…you’d better keep hold of your hat! This prompted a rather hasty round of group photos before everyone dived indoors for shelter.
As the evening guests started to arrive, it was time for the cutting of the cake followed by the first dance which was rather impressively followed by a spot of double child-swinging courtesy of a rather brow-beaten dad. Cries of “Again, again!” ringing in his ears, no doubt.
