Cavendish Hotel Wedding
An Intimate Wedding at the Cavendish Hotel in Derbyshire
Yifan and Rod’s wedding was a first for me, in that I wasn’t there when they got married. After their small wedding ceremony at a town hall in London, they had a wedding celebration over in Shanghai with Yifan’s family. I wasn’t there for that either, unfortunately! However, when they arranged a wedding get-together at the Cavendish Hotel in Baslow, Derbyshire, they asked me to come along and be their wedding photographer. And I’m so glad they did!

The day started much like a usual wedding day, with me photographing Yifan and her bridesmaids getting ready in a room at the hotel. Even though there was to be no official ceremony, Yifan was still going to wow her guests with her wedding dress! That’s if her adorable little niece didn’t steel the show with her poorly finger!
Before greeting the guests, Yifan asked if we could do a couple of portraits of her and her bridesmaids within the hotel to capture some of it’s traditional elements, so we made our way through the tiny corridors on the hunt for a good place. As it turns out, the one included in the photos below, taken in one of the tiny corridors, is one of my faves!
We could see guests arriving, so we headed back to reception so that the two families, some of whom had never met, could be introduced to one another. And so Yifan’s niece could show everyone her poorly finger!
After lunch and some speeches from the best man and bridesmaid, a group of us piled into a couple of cars and drove the 5 minute drive to Chatsworth for a guerilla portrait session. Yifan really wanted a couple of shots with Chatsworth House in the background as we were so close to it, so after some questionable driving manoeuvres and even more questionable parking, we jumped out and spent a couple of minutes taking photographs and waving at the passers by.
With it being an intimate wedding celebration, Rod had arranged for a private booth at a lovely pub just down the road for an evening meal, so once we returned from our Chatsworth experience, we made the short walk to the pub. It was a really lovely way to end the day. Happy, relaxed and tucked away in a fab little country pub with your nearest and dearest. It’s what life’s all about really.
